Recombinant Pig Liver Esterase (PLE)
Recombinant pig liver esterases are widely employed in organic chemistry for racemic resolutions and desymmetrizations, particularly in the asymmetric synthesis of chiral alcohols and esters. These enzymes catalyze the (enantioselective) hydrolysis of esters into carboxylic acids. They demonstrate varying specific activities towards (racemic chiral) esters and provide diverse selectivities for the desymmetrization of symmetric diester compounds.
